How to Get Quick Traffic to your Blog or Website

Have you ever looked at your traffic stats and thought they looked pretty dismal? It happens to all of us and I assure you – it’s perfectly fixable. I’ve developed some strategies to help give my traffic a boost. I hope they help you, too.

  • Check Google Trends. I look here every now and then to see if there are any topics or keywords that relate to my niche. Then, I’ll write an optimized post about it. Once it’s published, I’ll use pingoat.com and also stumble the post.
  • Use stumbleupon. I’ve tried the other places too, like Digg – but I’ve had the most luck with getting a traffic boost using stumbleupon.
  • Tell your friends. Whenever you haveĀ  new content, make sure you tell it to your friends on twitter, facebook, or any of the other social spaces online.
  • Comment on blogs. This is one of my favorite strategies. However, it does take some time because the best comments are the ones that are meaningful and thoughtful.
  • Article marketing. Use sites that don’t require a lengthy approval process. I’ve noticed a fairly decent traffic surge from Xomba but in order for that to work you need to write 5-10 articles on topics related to your niche. Stumble the article after it’s published for an even bigger boost.

A note about stumbleupon. I just wanted to remind you that it is important to understand how to best use stumbleupon. You need to “give” even more than you receive. Make it a rule that for every site you stumble of your own, you should stumble 4-6 sites by random people. This is easy to do – just install the plugin (I know firefox has one). When you see a site or an article or post that you like, just click the button to stumble it. You surf the net anyway, why not make it beneficial?

When I need to get quick traffic to my blog, this is the routine that I do. And the nice thing about it is that these things are also a key part of a long term strategy.

I’m right smack dabb in the middle of this conundrum! After reading all the guru’s and cyberbaggers who make it sound so easy to get tons of traffic I’m finally coming to realization you have to actually go out and get it. Developing steady traffic is getting a little less mysterious, at least to me because we have people like you posting quality information on how to build and drive a stream of traffic to our sites.

    Thanks again!

Give more than you receive – hmmm, now where have I heard that before. :D
The great thing about the tips you suggested is that they will also bring consistent traffic to your site. Consistency builds community!

Kathryn, Exactly! Give more than you receive – that’s a nice, simple way to put it. :)

Absolutely, the best way of publishing content is by using social media, and find the interested users instead of having them find you.
